Taking Control of Your Website as a Marketing Tool, Learn 5 Power Tool/Tips

When’s the last time you updated your website?

  • Today?
  • This month?
  • This Year?

If your website isn’t representative of your current offerings then how will it engage visitors and convert them to leads?

Hint: It won’t

Imagine putting your latest promotion on your website in the morning and emailing it out to your contacts by noon and accepting orders in the afternoon? It’s possible.

Somewhere in the days after starting a small business, the first items of order are business cards… and a website. They’re generally accepted staples of any business- big or small. The difference between your business card and your website is their capabilities as a marketing tool. Unfortunately most small businesses utilize their websites to no further benefit than a business card. It doesn’t change and it only reaches as far as your hand- if you don’t “hand it” to someone then there’s probably no one actually looking at it.

But my marketing is mostly done via Social Media…

Social Media definitely has its place in your marketing plan but more than likely your posts and tweets have links to your website. Then what? If your website isn’t positioned to generate a lead or close a sale then all those efforts in Social Media were for nothing. Your website is the only online tool where you have complete and total control so don’t’ let the opportunity slip away. Twitter, Facebook, and Linkedin all require you play by their rules. Your website is the one place where you make the rules.

No matter your target market, the philosophy is the same. Known your customer and connect with them by sharing information relevant to their needs, wants, or interests. It’s really not much different than dating. First connect at some high level, then build a deeper connection through continually serving mutual benefit.

  • Performers/Bands need attendees.
  • Restaurants need diners.
  • Non-Profits need donations.
  • Churches need parishioners.
  • And small business need leads.

Updating your website is probably on your task list but gets neglected for work more directly related to- well… making money. But what if your site website actually brought in customers and sales? If this were the case updating your website would move right to the top of your to-do list. With the proper tools and habits this can be the case.

Websites technologies have evolved tremendously over the past decade with one major driving force- enabling entrepreneurs and small business to have total control of the content. You may have even heard the term “Content Management System” (CMS). There’s dozens of them out there such as WordPress, Drupal, and Joomla all with varying features but all focused on one core philosopy- dividing design and content. This means your designer can worry about colors and fonts independently of your work promoting your business.

Your website is one of the few marketing tools of which you have complete and total control. Unlike other marketing mediums (print, tv, radio), you can easily make updating your small business website a daily task without need for experts or consultants. If you write your own emails to customers, you can update your own website too.

In 90 minutes you’ll learn how to use 5 freely available website tools. Each is designed to minimize technical know-how and maximize results.

The tools demonstrated will be based on a WordPress based website but are applicable to other CMS’s should you be using one of them.

  1. Go Mobile!
The first place you might check a website is on your phone- what do you think your potential customers do too? But does it look and format the same on a 4 inch screen? It’s a lot easier than you might think.
  2. Youtube Videos
Learn to embed Youtube Videos in 30 seconds flat. Period.
  3. Getting Visitor Interaction with Comments
Comments on blogs are the mother of social media. By making it easy for website visitors to leave feedback you stimulate engagement... and favor from Google too!
  4. Automatic Newsletters
Jumping between your website and third party mailing services to construct a newsletter? Wouldn't it just be easier if your website could be your newsletter all in one?
  5. Visitor Tracking
These mighty tools are sure to overwhelm many, but learn the absolute basics and harness the knowledge to hone leads.

Leave this workshop ready to take immediate action on your website. Empowered with the right tools you can easily post promotions or sales on your website in the morning and email them out to customers by the afternoon. Build this habit and you’ll soon have sales that same day.
